Opening Keynote – How Discovery Tour by Assassin’s Creed Takes Education to the Next Level

The benefits of video games are well documented for play and entertainment – but can the interactivity and immersion provided by games help in an educational setting? In February 2018, Ubisoft introduced The Discovery Tour by Assassin’s Creed: Ancient Egypt. This educational tool allows visitors to roam and explore the entire world of Egypt that was recreated in Assassin’s Creed Origins (released in October 2017). From Alexandria to Memphis, from the Nile Delta to the Sand Sea, from The Giza plateau to the Faiyum Oasis, visitors are immersed like never before in Ancient Egypt. Renowned Historian Maxime Durand will share the experience of bringing Discovery Tour by Assassin’s Creed to classrooms and museums around the world, and the insights gained from educators and students along the way.

Breakout Session: Evolution of Interactive Digital Humans from 3Lateral

Too often when we talk about entrepreneurship we hear only the stories of glory and success. But they say it is from our failures that we learn the most, and our ability to adapt in the face of these failures that we can capitalize on unforeseen opportunities and changing circumstances leading to even greater success. Dr. Lehrer joins us to share some of the invaluable lessons she’s learned during her years of pivoting, first from academia to business, and then at multiple points after launching not one, but three companies. Laugh, cry and applaud during this sometimes funny and other times poignant talk while learning from the school of hard knocks from a career that has spanned 30 years and multiple industries.

Immerse yourself inside a 15th century prayer bead and explore the intricate carvings made visible through the power of micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and virtual reality. Produced by the Canadian Film Centre’s Media Lab (CFC Media Lab) and Seneca College School of Creative Art & Animation, this artistic and technical collaboration between the AGO Conservator, Lisa Ellis and Interactive Artist and Designer Priam Givord marks the first time anyone will be able to move through, around and within one of these small wonders.

Fossil Hunters is a casual action-adventure game about digging for fossils and building your own dinosaurs.
